Check to see if your pulleys are lining up an dnot off use astraight edge for this. Then check the belt for bad grooves to many grooves on it. Like not a belt with 7 grooves and 6 on your pulleys. If the belt is frayed at all on either edge replaceit. And it should be anew belt as well. The routing i'm sending is for a 3.4L as you didn't say what engine you have

So, I had my alternator replaced. Then the serpentine belt broke. I had the belt replaced along with a new belt tensioner assembly. It squealed for a good 2 months. The belt broke this morning. What could be wrong?

You could have a problem in any of the other components driven by that belt and it's going to have to be inspected carefully. The lead suspect would be the A/C compressor locking up.

Hi
The serpentine belt broke and I was looking for information on putting a new one on.
My main question is how to retract the spring loaded tensioner.
I am presuming a wrench on the bolt at the front of the tensioner will do it but want to be sure.
It is a 3.1 litre v6 with the alt on the top left.
I am pretty sure I have found a digram of the routing for the belt ( car was painted and I can't find one on the vehicle ) but if you could provide that as well that would be great
Thanks

There is a tension bar which you can buy or rent from most auto part stores for like $30. It will make life alot easier for you when you replace the belt.

Check that tensioner is not binding, also look for any contaminants on belt (coolant, oil).

Replace belt, but clean all pulleys with brake clean to remove contaminants. If you find anything on belt, find source of problem before replacing belt.
