1997 Pontiac Grand Am knocking noise

Engine has knocking noise when accellerated then shuts off.

First check oil pressure with mechanical gauge, but I have to tell you that any knocking is usually a rod or main bearing.

Have you run the engine low on oil, or failed to change it every 3,000 miles?
