1995 Pontiac Grand Am will not shift

The transmission will shitf from park to reverse to nutral and to first but it will not shift above that, what I dont understand is that it worked fine a year ago when I first got it and it sit for a while now it wont work. The fluid is full. I have ran out of options and I dont have the money to take it to the shop!

Check the cable connection to the trans, make sure it is moving when the selector is moved.

Yes everything moves on the exterior of the trans and in the pan!

If the selector cable is working properly, and is moving the selector arm on the trans. To all the gears P-R-N-D-2-1, and the fluid is full (always check with engine running, trans at temp. Car in Park)then you will have to get it inspected at a trans shop for a diagnosis. Some will do it for free, and use a local shop, not a chain.
