My '95 Grand Am will heat up after a while. It will usually get up just over the 220 mark, but I found that if I accelerate, generally between 40 and 50 mph, it will cool down to about 160 and then proceed to heat up again. I have already replaced the radiator, thermostat and heater core to fix the overheating problem that it had before I got it.

Oh, the overheating problem that it had was fixed before this new problem came up. It seemed to run well for few weeks and I started making longer trips on a regular basis and this came up.

First of all thank you so much for your donation. So the temp gauge will get up to the 220 mark on the temp gauge? The cooling fan should come on when the engine temp is above 217 degree's does it?Can you ever hear the radiator fan kick on if so what does your temp gauge say. If it run's hot till you drive it sounds like your radiator fan isn't working?Let me know what you find.

Turns out that it was just an electrical problem. The temperature gauge in the dash was not consistent with the secondary gauge in the car.
