I have a '92 3.1L V6 Firebird that is burning up plugs. I replaced all six plugs about 2 years ago and about 4 months ago I took it to a shop where they had determined the insulator on one of the plugs inside the head had disintegrated. They did a compression check and I had 150 psi in the head. Now after running fine the last 4 months, it's acting the exact same way. What would cause a spark plug to burn up an insulator like that and what happens to the pieces of the insulator in the combustion chamber? Thanks in advance.

You are probably running to lean in that cylinder, re check compression and wet test as well. If ok check the injector.

What's a 'wet test'? Can an auto parts store check that, or does a shop have to do that?

A wet test is a compression test with a few drops of oil in the cylinder before it's cranked. If reading is higher, it needs rings!
