1999 pontiac bonneville 3.8 w/131000miles on it. Note: I replaced a fuel pressure regulator 2 years ago because the car would just die on me car has run fine until the last few months. I will be driving down the freeway @ 60 mph and the car make the little dash ding ding and then just dies, sometime I can pop it into neutral and restart right away other time I have to stop and wait for 5-10 minutes and then it will start. And sometimes I can drive the car all day make 5 or six stops with no problem, and the next stop try to start it and it won't. I wait an hour or two and then it starts. OB2 gives me no codes at all. Helppppp. Thx, todd

Same problem.
1999 Bonneville SE, 106k

Occasionally, engine stops running while driving or engine will not start. There are two different modes for not starting: A) engine spins, does not start, acts like combustion failure, or B) the engine does not spin, acts like electrical power failure.

Engine always restarts. Now or later. When the car is ready it will start.

My 96 bonneville does the samething. (160K miles)
from my research it could be the crank position sensor located behind the harmonic balancer causing it not to restart for an hour.
I have a new sensor, but have been unable to remove the harmonic balancer bolt. Will be taking it to work and using an impact wrench. 3/4" drive socket with cheater is not enough torque to break bolt free on my car.
My list of issues for this car is very long.
Purchased new after the 97's came out. First 8 years were great.
