When I try to start the vehicle, the security light stays on and the engine will not even turn over. I wait about 5 minutes, the light goes out, USUALLY the car will then start and run fine. Often this process has to be repeated 2-3 times before the vehicle starts.

I had the same problem with my 01 bonneville. I don't know if uve recieved any answers, but here it goes.
When I had mine taken in they said nothing was wrong bc they got it to start. Then, as soon as I got home it stopped! I would turn the key and the lights came on (so obviously it wasnt the battery)- even the air would turn on. I wouldnt hear it crank or roar. But I could hear like if something switched (like a click), but still couldnt get it to start. Long story short, it was the ignition switch!
You should def try to replace it or at least have someone look @ it for u

Another thing, u might want to have ur alarm system checked out (if it is equipped with one).

I dont know about your car (im assuming its the same as mine?) But I know with my car if the security system is defaulting the whole car will not work. Its equipped that way to decrease chances of being stolen.
