Engine Performance problem
1993 Pontiac Bonneville 6 cyl Front Wheel Drive Automatic

The car runs fine buy every time I press the brakes to come to a stop it shuts off but the radio stays on and only starts back up once I put it in neutral. Does the same when I try and turn a corner or go around a curve. My dad replaced the intake gages, spark plugs and my air filter but this problem keeps occuring. Service engine lights comes on, could it be my fuel pump that needs to be replaced or what?

By your description of the concern I would have to say it sound like a wiring issue. When turning stopping and acceleration the engine moves back and forth on its mounts. This can pull on wires and cause an intermittent open inside the insulation of a wire or wires. I have found a common area to check is the connector going into the coil pack there are about ten wires going in and they are all pulled pretty tight. Remove that connector and inspected all the wires and terminals. Sometimes its necessary to pull on the wire slightly to test its integrity.

So the fuel pump would have nothing to do with it?

Anything is possiable if you suspect the fuel pump it may be necessary to install a fuel pressure gauge on the vehicle and see if the fuel pressure drops when driving. Does it only do it when low on gas or all the time?
