I have a 99 Voyager Minivan. We recently began to have an issue with it starting at times and at other times it will not start. When this happens, you just hear a click. The instrument panel seems to display odd characters as well. Usually, after turning it off and back on (may take several attempts), it finally turns over. We took it to a mechanic that checked the starter to verify it wasn't bad. He then said it could be a couple of things. Either the ignition switch needs to be replaced or possibly the computer. He wasn't getting an error from the computer but stated that it may still be failing. I just need to know what the best guess is as to what is causing this. I don't want to spend money on replacing the ignition switch if that isn't going to solve the issue.

Sounds more like you need to have the ignition switch tested could be a bad spots on it and when it hits the sweet spot if fires up

A new egnition switch was put in yesterday and that did not resolve the issue. The mechanic feels the computer under the steering column is the culprit. The issue is most prevelent in the morning when we first try to start the van. He thinks condensation is getting inside and causing a malfunction with the computer. Once they tried the new ignition switch and that didn't resolve it, he took it back out and didn't charge us, so he obviously isn't looking to just make money off us. The starter was tested also and it checked out fine. According to him, the next most likely issue would be the computer.
