Car idles rough while still, seems to be better once you are moving, but when you are still, feels like you are in a massage chair.

My car does this too. The rpm's flutter. It's not noticable until the cars just sitting there. At speed it runs as smooth as ever.

I just got finished replacing the water pump and all the belts. Along with a valve comeing out of the top of the engine (not very car literate). My car has 182000 miles on it.

I've also noticed a gas smell lately which made me think it may be the IAC motor. Could that be it?

I wouldnt suspect iac module if your smelling gas. all that does it affect idle speed by changing the amount of air entering the engine.

it could be a bad iac causing that issue.

also low fuel pressure can cause that issue and cause gas smell. check the fuel pressure regulator for leaks, remove the vacuum line with engine running, if line pops off and squirts gas then it needs replacement.

I would do a commpressioint est to make sure the engine is in good shape.
