Hi:
Are you getting spark and fuel to the engine? The fuel filter is near the fuel tank.

Let me know what you find.

Hi there, you will have to get a code check done , and see if you have spark, fuel pressure and injection pulse, also check this link as it should be of help to you.

My 1992 plymouth acclaim (110,000 miles 4 cylinder automatic) died on me while I was driving and won't start. It cranks but won't start.
In the past it's made loud screaming noises when I started the car and a chirping noise when I drive it.
What do you think it could be?

There is a list of what it could be. When you turn the key to the on position without cranking the engine over can you hear the fuel pump run in the tank for 5 seconds?

Please run down this guide and report back.

We have a 1992 Plymouth Acclaim. The car just will not start or turn over. I checked all the fuses, the battery is still good, and when you turn the key to the on position it does nothing. Everything else works. Radio, wipers, turn signals, stop lights, flashers, and all. Do you think it is the starter? My son just put in a amp for his stereo. Will that have to do anything with the car not starting?

I had the same exact problem with a 98 plymouth Breeze. If it is the same way. Lock the doors with the keyless entry remote, then unlock it. That should work. It has something to do with the alarm system.

Ok first of all your car is a van, and 4 years younger. Any plymouth acclaims 89-95 did not come with the option of keyless entry so that probrobly wouldnt be the problem. Ive owned my acclaim since 91, and I pretty much know what I am talking about. It would be pretty damn hard to install keylessentry for any model acclaim, or any electronics besides the sweet sterio system. Also where did you hook up the power *red* wore from the amp to? If hooked to battery it might be preventing enough amps going to the starter to crank. Try cranking it if no crank, its most likely the wrong place to hook it up, or the starter is faulty. No offence to anybody im only trying to provide some expertise here

I have a 1993 plymouth acclaim

two days ago, I drove it just fine to my friends apartment

he and I went out of town (using his car) that evening and the next afternoon when I attempted to start my car all I get is a click

i don't know if the gas line would be frozen considering the high around here has been approximately 7 degrees

but i'm hoping to look for some insight on this

i know it's not the battery because my lights and radio all turn on when go to get in the car or turn the key, I did run the test to read the ECM on it and the ECM came back fine, so there's no failures recorded to the computer

and if it is the gas line, what is a quick, inexpensive method to get the car to start (there are no garages around here either)

Just because the battery will turn everything on inside the car when you turn the key, the starter is one of the biggest electrical draw on the battery so it could still be the battery, try jump starting the car, if it jump starts your battery is probably the battery. Have your battery and alternator tested at one of the local auto parts stores like advance or autozone. Check both to make sure that your alternator did not die and kill your battery.

What have you checked so far? Is the Check Engine light on? If there is no spark, suspect the Hall Effect pickup assembly under the rotor in the distributor.

Hi deschutes606, Welcome to 2carpros and TY for the donation

I turn the key over and it makes no noise

Start by making sure the battery condition and connections are good.

If okay check and test the orange fusible link at rear of battery, starter relay and ignition switch. See Starting system EWD below

My acclaim recently stopped starting for me. When the key is turned to on I don't hear the fuel pump kick on, but the very first try to start it the vehicle starts up but won't stay started, and then after that try it will turn over but not start. Does this mean my fuel pump needs to be replaced or something simple I'm missing?

How long since a tune-up? Any applicable mil codes? You can check those codes yourself. If cranks good but won't start, have a helper crank it while you visually check for spark at the plugs, if you have spark everywhere, use a gage and check fuel pressure.

To check for codes, you turn the key till the dash lites come on, no further. You cycle the key, on--off, on--off, on, then the mil starts flashing, you count the flashes to get the codes. Your looking for two digit codes.

Well the code I got was 41 and 55. I called an auto store and they told me it means I have a charging issue, most likely with my asd relay.

Did you visually check for spark at the plugs? Engine cranking, anything? If the battery has a full charge and the vehicle is cranking ok, I'm not worried about the charging system, at the moment.

If the computer doesn't see an rpm signal it may not ground the asd relay. I, d look for rpm signal first.

To visually check for spark at the plugs, take spark plug wire loose from spark plug, use known good spark plug or spark tester in boot, ground metal part of tester to metal part of engine, watch for spark, engine cranking. Let us know.

Yes I visually check the spark plugs and there is spark. The engine cranks and fires onces but wont fire again and just cranks. How would I look for an rpm signal?
