We need to clarify what is happening just to be sure we do the correct things.

When you step on the throttle, the RPMs do not go up and it acts like you are not even pressing the accelerator?

If this is the case, then we need to start with checking for codes. Basically, this throttle is an electronic throttle, so the ECM sees the accelerator sensors move and it tells the throttle to move.

If it does not see the throttle move, then it will set codes.

Here is a guide that will help with this:

https://www.2carpros.com/articles/checking-a-service-engine-soon-or-check-engine-light-on-or-flashing

Once we know what codes are there, we can go from there, but I attached a couple pages that will help explain this.

However, if this is doing something different, then maybe get a video of what is happening.

Thanks

Yes, nothing happens when stepping on gas pedal; no light of check engine, no codes.

Okay. You have an electronic throttle control so do you have a scan tool that can monitor live data?

We need to go into the PCM and monitor the accelerator pedal position sensors. These are the sensors that are on the accelerator pedal and tell the PCM that you are pressing the pedal.

The PCM then takes that info and sends it to the throttle body and it moves the throttle plate the same amount you are pressing it.

Normally these sensors are not corresponding with each other then it sets codes. However, if you have no codes then we need to assume the accelerator pedal has an issue.

Were there any issues with this prior? Meaning did this just happen one day or did something happen, and this started after that?

Lastly when you say there is no light and no codes, did you actually check for codes or are you just assuming there are no codes because there is no light? We need to actually check because we could have some codes and the light no be on. That is rare but could happen.

Thanks

There is a check engine light now, but I don’t have a scanner to find out what it is. So, based on that what would you think the problem would be?

Also is there a sequence to reprogram the throttle body in the gas pedal?

If there is a check engine light, I suspect we have either an accelerator pedal position sensor or throttle body issue.

However, we are purely guessing without knowing what the codes are.

There is not a relearn process that would correct this issue. Basically, when you replace the throttle body you turn the ignition on for 5 seconds and the throttle body does a forced learn each time you do this.

So, you can try and turn the ignition on and back off but that is not going to address any issues. All that does is learn the resting point of the throttle blade so that it can adjust it properly based on pedal position.

Okay, what if it is the pedal sensor?

If the pedal sensor is the issue, then we will have codes pointing to this, but the pedal will have to be replaced. These sensors appear to be part of the pedal assembly.

Okay. Thanks. Couple questions though. Is this a hybrid vehicle? I don't show Kia having a hybrid for this year. You have a couple of codes for a hybrid battery.

So, most of these codes are not for this specific vehicle except the misfire codes so we may have a scan tool issue. Where did you have these pulled? Is there a chance you went to a parts store? If so, they may have given you the codes out of a different vehicle.
