I am wondering if any parts or most from a 1997 will fit my car or vice versa.

It really depends on the part. The 1997 is a sith generation car while the 2001 is seventh generation. There were many changes made. There were at least seven different engines used, four different transmissions.

If you would like to see if specific parts interchange you can go to:
http://www.car-part.com/ put in the information and it can show you if some parts will work.

You can also go to:
https://www.rockauto.com./ Go through the selection tree. Then pick a part. In the picture I have front lower ball joints. If you click on the blue numbers I have circled in green it will bring up a list of vehicles that part also fits. If you enter the numbers circled in red into google with Honda Civic in front of them it will usually show you places to buy those parts and they may also list other vehicles the part fits.

In general if you are trying to decide to buy/keep a parts car, I tend to go through, pick off the parts that are "universal" first, like bulbs, fuses, relays. Then google something like "2001 Honda Civic problems" and see if there are parts that commonly fail. Look those up and if they fit and are in new or very good shape, keep them.
The rest goes for scrap or I will list it as a parts car and sell it off.
