New to me 2011 GMC Acadia. Motor was replaced with an 0 mile long block and has 27,000 miles on it. Now shows P0008 code. Is it reasonable to think it’s the timing chain? At 27,000 miles! Oil was low so it was topped off. Code still persists. Motor has parts and labor covered til October 26th of 2026. Should I drive it an hour back to the shop or figure out a way to tow it there? Is there anything I can do to before driving or towing it?

Hello,

Can I ask if while cold does the engine make a slight rattle noise at idle, I would listen from under the hood or you can upload a short video of the problem so I can hear it. If so this means the timing chain/components are worn out. Also, can I ask if you know for a fact the engine only had 27k on it? Or is this what the repair shop said, I have seen a situation that the wrecking yards will lie to the shop that is installing the engine FYI. I would make sure the engine oil is clean and full with a new filter, then clear the codes to see if the code come back and if so take it back to the shop that did the work.
