My car stopped at a light because it overheated, put coolant in it and got it home, had no heat inside the car and the coolant leaked out under where the thermostat is located. So changed the thermostat and gasket. Drove it and it was fine, then later that day drove it and it was getting hot again while driving and going down a bit. While idling and coolant is leaking out under where thermostat was replaced and a hissing noise, hoses look good and no leak from radiator. Any ideas of what is wrong?

Hi,

It could be coming from the water pump. There is what is called a weep hole that coolant can leak from when the pump is going bad. Also, if the bearing is bad in the pump, it will make noise.

Take a look through this link and then inspect your water pump:

Next, if you determine the pump is leaking and needs to be replaced, here is a link that explains in general how one is replaced:

https://www.2carpros.com/articles/water-pump-replacement

If you look at the attachments below, they provide the directions specific to your vehicle for replacement. The hard part of this repair is this. It requires the timing belt to be removed. I will first provide the directions for the removal, inspection, and replacement of the pump. After that, I will provide the directions for the removal 82
and replacement of the belt. Note: The timing belt doesn't drive the pump, but the pump mount is partially behind the belt.

Note: This is a somewhat big job, so make sure the pump is leaking. Also, review the directions prior to starting to make sure you are comfortable performing the procedure.

Let me know what you find or if you have other questions.

Take care,

Joe
