MY Car wont stay running

I have a 96 Olds Achieva SC. It has approximately 225200 miles on it. When I went to start my car this morning it started but then automatically shut off. The lights stayed on, the radio came on, the fans for the heat came on but it just won't stay started. I tried pushing on the gas but the minute I did that it died sooner. I dont know what to do! It just won't seem to stay running. It turns over fine and then it just dies. What could be wrong?

Does it just stall out or does it make nose before it does ie backfire clucking idle drop down?

It just stalls out. It also made the battery die, not sure if it is because the battery is old or wahtever is wrong with my car.
