Engine problem
1997 Other Oldsmobile Models 6 cyl Wheel Drive Type unknown Automatic 100000 miles

I have been having a problem with my car not wanting to start. The key will turn over, but nothing. This does not happen everyday either. I have had the battery tested 4 different times and the alternator is new(replaced 2 weeks ago). I have paid numerous times to have diagnostic tests ran on it and no codes ever show up. I need to get this problem fixed so I dont lose my job, but I cant pinpoint the problem. Also, the car has not been running rough at all so that steers me away from thinking its the fuel likes are injectors. But hey, what do I know. I am a 24 year old single mom who knows really nothing about cars. Please help me diagnose my car trouble. PS, I tried to send a donation and it would not let me use my regular credit card. Im not sure how to use the pay pal thing and I dont have a need to have a pay pal card neither. Pleasee help my guys if you can think of anything. I greatly appreciate it, and so does my landlord! HA HA HA Thank you! Lisa

When it doesnt start, is the security light on the dash flashing or off? Let me know next time it happens, also with the key in the ignition, does the door and light chime work?

Clicking? Or nothing at all? If you hear a click, then either the battery is weak, or the starter, possibly bad battery cable connections, check and clean both ends of BOTH cables! Dissconnect negative(-) first, and put it on last! If no click the starter relay is no good!

The car acts like it wants to start, but it doesnt. The other day I was driving it on the expresway and the damn thing just died on me. No bells or warning lights, it just stopped running. Do you think it could be an electrical problem? Are these two incedences related? Point me in the right direction. I know its not the battery because its new, and so is the alternator. I just had these two replaced about 3 weeks ago, but am still having the same problem. Any more ideas? Thank you so much for trying to help me get down to the bottom of this disaster. You all are so talented at what you do, and to think you actually care enough to do this for people who cant afford to take their vehicle in and spend a crap load of money just to get a horendious quote. You guys kick ass!

Lisa can you give us the vehicle model and engine size? The engine size is on a white label under the hood. It is in liters.3.1 or 3.4? It sound like an ignition module problem.

Ok the important thing here is is your service engine soon light on? If yes the code(s) need to be read, Autozone does it free, But my experience with these is Crank sensor could be going bad, Or Ignition control module. But you need to rule out the fuel pump first. Pressure test the fuel pump. I will sen you the test proceedures by email.
