My fuel gauge worked fine until I unhooked the power at the fuse box an installed a fuse and power lead for a new stereo that I installed with the car off the fuel gauge needle is facing down in the 6 o'clock position when the car is running the needle goes all the way to the right until it hits the needle stop on the wrong side

I had the same problem. Here is how I fixed. Find a very thin but strong wire (such as attach wire). There is a set trip button coming out of glass. You can use that little hole to reach fuel gauge. You have two option now. Either you can do it clockwise and spring over needle. Or you can go counterclockwise and bring it back to its original position. Option 2 is easier and you will not have the problem again. Good luck.

I also, just installed a stereo in the kids car, disconnected the battery ground and the fuel gauge needle spun around to the wrong side of the at rest post. I tried the coat hanger wire through the set trip button hole - it worked great - pushed the needle counter-clockwise. Moved easily and snapped right back into place. Thanks.
