1987 Oldsmobile Cutlass Gas Gauge u

Ok so ive had my car for about 2 years and the gas gauge worked fine and then one day it floated up to full and it has been stuck there since then, so im not sure whats wrong with it because I checked the ground wire connection and it is completely fine could you help?

The database showed about 10 different cutlass, don't know which one you have. Don't know if wiring info is the same for all. I'd take the fuel pump/sender connector loose from the tank. Turn the key on, no need to start it. See if gage reacts? It may be that an open circuit will cause the gage to read full. With key off, use a jumper between the two terminals for the sending unit, turn key to on, see if gage reacts? The info I looked at was for a ciera, don't know if it would apply to other cutlass models? You probably have a cutlass supreme? Let me know.

I have the same car and the gas gague isnt working in mine anymore. If u find out the problem let me know and I will do the same if I find out.
