2003 Oldsmobile Alero car wont start

I put the key in the ignition and it wont turn. It dings to let me know the key is in the ignition but it wont turn. Tried my key and my husbands same result. Just wonder what it could be. If it could the ignition itself or maybe anti theft mechinism. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank u
