1995 Oldsmobile 98 Rough acceleration

My mechanic has not been able to fix the rough acceleration and slow response to accelerate. Also when I start car it does not start on first try and when I put in reverse it vibrates and idles rough. Mechanic has replaced wires and plugs and knock sensors. What is wrong? This car has always had good acceleration and response. Smooth riding car and I love the old girl.

Has the check engine light come on? Also, you may want to ask your mechanic to check the catalytic converter to make sure it isn't partially plugged. Finally, has he checked for vacuum leaks?
