Your switch on the steering box may e bad and not letting the idle increase like it's supposed to. Scan the engien for any codes(count the flashes on the service enginelight) 1 then 2 =12 then come to the site and look under obd1 if you get any. If you get the number 12 everything is ok.

It sometimes happens when I turn the heat on all the way too. I called Firestone and they told me that my car was to old to have a computer to do an diagnostic test

Take a paper clip and cross A&B on the aldl, turn thekey on and count the flashes of the service engine light. It will flash 3 times on then 3 times 2 that equals 12. Count the rest the same way. Come back tothe site here and look under trouble code definitions under OBD1 it will give you what the trouble is on any of the codes. 12 means everythign is ok so if you don't get any other codes, change the steering pressure switch and see if that helps. This may also be a ground that needdscleaning. They are usually on the back of an engine with a front wheeldrive. There is a stud and take the ground off, clean them and replace them. That may be your problem as well.
