Just replaced engine with rebuilt long block with new oil pump and new pressure relief valve, primed oil. I started up the engine and when the engine runs oil light goes off but when the engine is running about 900 RPMs the oil light will come on but rev up a little the light goes off.

Hello,

It sounds like the pump is not producing adequate oil pressure at idle. Another possibility is a faulty oil pressure sending unit.

Checking the oil pressure can help you determine what could be triggering the light.

This engine should have 5 PSI at idle and 30-80 PSI at 3,000 RPMs.

I have attached diagrams below for your reference.

Please let me know if you have any questions.
Thank you.
