Trying to replace the oil pan gasket got all the bolts out it will not come down. There's not enough room to drop completely down because of the transmission. Do I have to remove the transmission to complete this mission?

Normally it will come out without transmission removal. I have seen worn mounts causing the engine to set low in the frame and cause clearance issues with the pan. Some have no clearance when they should have an inch. I suspect that is your issue. I would use a lift bar on the engine and unbolt the transmission mount and get the room you need. Might be a good time to replace the mounts as well.
