I just discovered a wet sign around the valve cover of my engine, after touching I discovered it is oil. What could be responsible for such?

Do I have to change the valve cover seal/rubber?

I also have the check sign on my car meter board for over four years now.

Hi and thanks for using 2CarPros.com

If the check engine light has been on, that indicates there are diagnostic trouble codes stored in the computer. You will need to scan the computer to determine what codes are present. Here is a quick video showing how it is done:

One you get the codes, let me know what they are and I can help with the problem.

As far as the valve cover, if it is wet around where it mounts to the cylinder head, then it is leaking. Yes, the gaskets need replaced. Here is a link that shows it being done:

I have attached an exploded view of the valve covers so you can see the bolt locations.

Let me know if you have questions or need help.

Take care,
Joe

I cannot appreciate you enough for your support; I would do as instructed but the high fuel consumption was not addressed could it be as a result of the leakage on the valve seal/gasket?

The high fuel consumption has been giving me concern, I need help to correct this which I think is a fault.

Welcome back:

You are very welcome and I would be happy to help. However, I must ask you to create a separate link for the fuel mileage issues. I will keep my eyes open for it. What happens is when we start focusing on more than one problem per link, things get confused. Therefore, the owners requested that we ask for new links to be created where there are multiple questions. I hope it is not an inconvenience.

I will watch. Also, excessive fuel consumption is not cause by a valve cover leak.

Take care,

Joe
