When I bought the vehicle, It would make a loud thud when switching gears from reverse to drive. Now it will lose acceleration mid drive. I will be driving down the road and a thud will occur, my car now has very little acceleration. It will smoke like crazy as well. I have to pour a good gallon of oil in it a week. Just curious if it's both my engine and my transmission? I have never dealt with a problem like this before.

Good morning,

You need to find the oil leak. Losing that much oil is way too much. You can cause engine damage by losing that much oil.

I would have the engine and transmission steamed cleaned off and drive it for a couple of days and then check for the source of the leak.

When it smokes, is it out the tailpipe or under the hood?

It smokes from the hood, pretty bad. I believe that I do have a crack in a seal with how much it leaks. If that is the case it would probably be best to find a new engine correct?

Before assuming that, I would have it checked first to be sure it might be something simple.

The oil pressure switch may be the issue and if it is, then it is not much to repair.

I was looking for a picture of the oil sender but cannot find one. It is right around the oil filter. It may be that simple.
