Odometer screen faded

I have a friend with a 2011 Yaris and the odometer screen is wearing out and faded. I want to know if they sell a new LED screen so that only the odometer led screen can be replaced? I assume the only options are to replace the odometer LED screen, change out the whole cluster from a donor car, or send out the existing cluster to get repaired? I am sure this issue is common and there must be a fix for this.

You might be able to get a new one through Toyota or a used one from a yard. Repair likely isn't possible unless it's something like a bad illumination LED or something like a bad solder joint, that could only be determined by taking it apart and testing to see if that is the case. They don't sell just the LCD as those are custom items and they are not something sold as parts. You get the complete cluster.
It isn't real common for the displays to fail, but considering the age and the use in a vehicle I could see it happening. If you can find one with a good display it can be swapped into the cluster you have, then you use a scan tool to set the odometer to match the actual mileage.

Thanks for replying. While I was waiting for a response, I noticed that there are LCD screens for sale on eBay for about $100. It looks like it has prongs on it and it seems as it would be plug and play. I am wondering what scan tool I would need to set the odometer.

Hard to say with the scan tool, the OE one will do the job. Aftermarket though can be interesting when it comes to Toyota coverage. My Launch and Autel units cover different things on the same model car. If the part you are looking at only has bare pins and not a circuit board with two multipin connections it might be just the display, that shouldn't need a scan tool, you would de-solder the old one, solder in the new one and see if it works.
This is the full module. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lC-V3hV0-2w

Thanks for the help, I changed out the whole instrument cluster and the mileage from the used junkyard cluster was displayed. Therefore, the donor car part retains the old mileage. Nevertheless, the replacement used part has a good screen. Job complete

Sounds like you got it taken care of. Good job. Be careful if the new reading is lower than the original though, if you sell it they may question the reading at the DMV.

The new cluster made the mileage 40,000 miles higher. However, this car will be used until scrapped by current owner.
