The engine turns over and fires but will not start at times.
No lights have come on to indicate the issue. The engine has also shut off a few times while I am driving.

Intermittent issues can be a bear to figure out but lets see if we can work together and figure it out.
When you say it turns over and fires but does not start do you mean it will crank over and maybe fire a couple cylinders then go back to cranking or is it more like it starts to run then just stops? When it shuts off is it an abrupt shut off like you turned the key or is it more like it is running out of gas and sputters to a stop? When it shuts off do you need to wait a while before it restarts or will it start right back up? Both could be fuel or ignition related just need to figure out which path to start testing. Does it seem to not start more in cold or wet weather or is it random. Was it just filled with fuel or oil changed or anything else just before this started?

Thanks Steve, here is what I have learned on the car. Keep in mind the car is thirty four years old and has not turned over 60,000 miles yet. I have driven the car about 180 miles. After looking over ignition systems I found the spark plugs where filthy and covered with carbon build up. I replace all eight plugs. After doing this the car will start right up after turning over maybe twice. It does not look like this car has been regularly maintained as it should have been and more like just sitting in someones garage.
The car would crank over many many times then start, running rough and shaking, I would apply the gas pedal then it will smooth out and run before I changed the spark plugs.
When the engine shuts off it happens abruptly. I also changed the oil and oil filter, It was filthy black and the oil filter looked like it had been on the car for ever. After changing the plugs and oil change I drove the car about thirty miles and now will not start, had to have it towed to the house. I used Pennzoil 5W-20. I have filled the car up with fuel as it was getting to empty and used super unleaded.
I ordered new spark plug wires, rotor and cap, ignition coil and fuel filter. These items are to arrive today but am hesitant to replace them until we get to the bottom of existing problem. RTP

Bad plugs can cause multiple issues. The abrupt shut off sounds like a coil or possibly a failing ignition switch. If it was fuel related I would expect a bit of bucking and power loss as it loses pressure and shuts down. To test it you could hook a test light to the power side of the coil and see if you have power. If no power try running a jumper to the battery and see if it starts then. Thirty four years is not that long, I have a 1959 Scout and a 1966 Chevrolet Impala. Of course both of those are much simpler than a Rolls.

I was able to rectify the problem. There is a fuel accumulator which maintains fuel pressure located between the fuel pump and fuel filter. It was either plugged up or malfunctioning.
I replaced it and now she starts and runs like a champ!

Good to hear. Sounds like a remote fuel pressure regulator.
Setting is one of the easiest ways to destroy a vehicle, without the fluids moving around things get rusted and corroded and critters can move in. I would suggest changing the fuel filter and cutting open the old one to check for rust or dirt in the tank. That way the new parts can be a bit more protected. If you do find rust there are places that can remove the tank and "boil" it out and then reline it to keep it from rusting further.
As you seem to want to keep it in good condition I would try to find all of the workshop manuals available for it to show all of the systems. Then enjoy the car and drive it.
