I was driving and all of a sudden, I lost 3rd and 4th gear. I have all other gears prn12. It takes off in 1st and shifts to second normally. When it shifts to third it revs up the engine, if I let off it will go into 4th and the same thing happens. If I manually shift from 2nd to 3rd it takes about 1.5-2 seconds for it to shift. If I feather the throttle, it will gain speed but if I press the accelerator hard it just revs the engine. The fluid is a little darker than original but not much. I’ve always had it changed at factory recommended intervals. It probably has 40,000 miles on this change. It doesn’t smell burnt at all and the fluid level is correct. Everything I’ve read first points out that it has to be the 3-4 clutches. I’ve done a line pressure check and all the gears are within tolerance using a Snap-on solus pro. I can manually engage the shift solenoids and hear them click. With the engine off I can hear the pcs make a high-pitched noise going from.01A-1A. No trouble codes have been set. I’ve put it on jack stands and cycled it through the gears. It will shift through all the and bring the speedometer up. Recently I pumped fluid out and replaced it with resnor stop slip and two quarts of fluid. It has helped a little. I haven’t pulled the pan or changed the filter. Also, I can’t reset the transmission adapt with the scanner. Are there any procedures I can do with the scanner to help further the diagnosis? Also, when in drive if I turn the TCC on it will stall out the engine in 1 or 2 seconds.

Good morning,

The transmission clutches are worn out and the transmission needs to be rebuilt or replaced.

Never ever add that stuff to the transmission. All it does is swell the seals to the point they burst, and you have a total failure.

There is nothing you can do externally to get it to work with replacing it with a used unit or a rebuilt unit.

Well, I pulled the pan off today and the filter neck had a crack in it. Also, the 2-3 shift solenoid is very loose and wiggly. This is the fluid and magnet in the bottom of the pan. The little specs are rocks from jiggling the pan loose. I removed the exhaust, shift linkage bracket and front driveshaft so I wouldn’t disturb the electrical components. Also, the filter came off with little to no effort. Do you think it would still be the 3/4 clutches?

You could try changing the fluid and filter and see but I doubt it will make a difference.

If it was that, then 1st and 2nd would have been affected.
