I have been having a lot of problems with my car making squeaking noises in the last few months. First my compressor went bad, so we had it changed and then the alternator went bad, and we had that changed as well. After all that, now my car is making this squealing noise every time that I press the gas and it continues until I stop pressing the gas. It's not a screeching sound but it's also a sound that you can't avoid hearing. Turning on the ac makes it stop a little but not very much. I had the smaller belt changed because it was cracking but the noise continued.

Hi,

It sounds like a belt issue. Is it possible for you to record and upload it for me to hear?

There are two belts on this vehicle, so one may be loose. See pic below.

Let me know which one was replaced and if you have checked for tension.

Take care,

Joe

Hello Joe,

Thank you for helping me. I changed the belt on top, but the noise continued. The noise continues to go away for a few minutes when I have the A/C on.

Hi,

I do hear it. It could be a dry belt or one of the belt-driven accessories. Do me a favor. Take a small cup of water and while the engine is running and you hear the noise, pour a small amount of water on one belt at a time to see if it changes pitch or stops. If it does, then the belt is either loose, dry, or something is getting onto it such as coolant or other fluid.

If there is no change, then we need to remove the belts to see if there is play or noise coming from one of the belt-driven accessories.

Let me know what you find.

Joe

Note: Make sure you wear old clothes and protect your eyes. The water can splash back at you.

Hello, I was able to figure out that it was the lower belt that stopped squeaking when I put some water. What do you think I should do moving forward?

Hi,

Is the belt in good condition? If it is, chances are it needs tightened. I attached a pic below. I highlighted 3 bolts that you will need to loosen (not remove). One they are loose, the nut that I circled in red needs to be tightened.

When you tighten it, there should be approximately 1/2-inch movement up and down at the belt.

Try this and let me know if it resolves the problem.

Take care,

Joe
