It wouldn't be the canister but the purge valve up on the engine. It also wouldn't set a code in most cases until it ran the full EVAP test and even then, it would be a two-trip code that takes a while to set. That said if you look at the image you can see the valve and its connections. To replace it you remove the air cleaner and its housing to get room, then the connectors are quick connect style, you pull out the tabs and then the top pulls up and the connector will come off of the fitting. Remove the 4 of those and the electrical connector and reverse the process to install the replacement. To connect the hoses push them on to the stop then push in the lock tab until it snaps into place. Reconnect the solenoid to the electronics and reverse the removal process.
