I have the car listed above in it this one doesn't have a distributor to it. It's ran by a ignition control module with coil pack no check engine light was running this morning now it wont start it backfires in the crab there many new parts on it seem it out if time not sure because my understanding is it run off the computer and ignition control module for the timing when it was running it'll drive okay couldn't gas it more than halfway or it'll miss out and bog down. I am the 2nd owner of the car I pick it up for $100.00 just to work on just at a lost ATM.

New parts
Map sensor
ECM
Alternator
New air filter
Ignition control module
Spark plugs
Wires
O2 sensor
Valve gasket
Throttle body gasket
Flasher relay
High beam switch
Turn signal switch clock spring

Just to be clear on the issue. The engine will not start and it backfires through the intake?

It appears you do not have a carb engine, it is actually a throttle body with an injector in it.

So we need to find out if we are getting proper spark and fuel. I suspect we have an issue where the injector is leaking. If the engine is backfiring then it is safe to assume that it has spark at this point. However, if there is too much fuel then it will not run.

Here are some guides that will help with this:

When you replaced the spark plugs, what did they look like? I attached a chart below that will show what fouled plugs look like. Were they black and burned looking?

Let's start with this info and we can go from there. Thanks

Can't remember how the plugs looked and I no longer have the old plugs. I remember just pulling them and putting new OEM plugs in due to the valve cover leaking all around them. It's a tbi I spray some starting fluid in it no luck. Just keeps turning over. Had a be backfire out the exhaust sound like a gun shot but still no start smoke coming from the throttle body. Remember one the old mechanical telling to pull a plug and check the color of spark. Can't remember if blue was out of time or yellow.

Okay. If it doesn't fire off starter fluid then we need to confirm the spark. I know you don't remember when you pulled the plugs so we are going to have to do that again.

Let us know if you have a strong spark and we can go from there. Thanks

Yea, it's getting spark. Been talking with a old mechanical here at the shop just bouncing ideas off each other do believe it's the crack position sensor. On this car it's on the back side of the motor where the coil pack are mounted to the ignition control module. Which is new had to replace it do to a code I had but I never change the crank position sensor. Just swap it over from the old ignition control module when out there and took a ratchet and was tapping the ignition control module where the crank position sensor is. Got it to fire up and run but wanted to shut off. Tapping it when it was running it would idle good then miss and shut off, etc, not sure. I have a new crank position sensor on the way. I will update when I put in see what happen and I will pull the plugs and get some pic and see how they look, etc.

Well, I got it fired up but still having a problem when ever you put it in drive it starts missing and popping. It'll idle fine with a few miss now and again. Took the top off the air filter watching the fuel spray seems good spray around the intake as it run with starting fluid to see if there any leaks but nothing just don't understand it, darn problem no check engine light. Like when in drive I fully push the pedal down and it was trying to shut off ig. I need to check fuel pressure.

That is great progress. We can definitely help with this however, we need to get a new post started for it.

This one is titled No Start and others will not find an issue with putting it in drive under this post. We are here to help you but you solving your issues are helping others in the future but they need to find them.

https://www.2carpros.com/questions/new

If you can get a new one started that would be great but if the issue is only in drive, I am thinking we have a possible torque converter issue.

Thanks again for updating us with this info. Thanks
