Three weeks after a new fuel pump van would start and run occasionally then failed to start. Towed to garage where they have replaced the fuse box, fuel control module and the ECM. Still no start. All wiring checked okay.

Hi,

Is this the original motor with 400+thousand miles? Also, do you have spark and fuel reaching the engine for ignition? Can you explain what happens when you try starting it? Does anything happen as far as you hear it firing on and off, a backfire, and so on?

The idea it won't start can be related to several things. I'm trying to narrow down possibilities. Also, let me know if the spark plugs have been removed and inspected to see if they are wet and if there is spark to them.

If there is spark, see what happens if you use starting fluid. Does it start for a couple of seconds and then stall? If so, then its fuel related. If there is no change, then we need to reconfirm if there is spark to the plugs.

If you have a good spark to the plugs and it does nothing with starting fluid, it could be a compression issue. So, if you can record it and upload it for me to hear when cranking, that may help me a lot.

Let me know.

Joe

The problem was with the fuel module and ECM program. Thanks for responding.
