Transmission shifts through first, second and third with no problems. When it tries to shift into overdrive it acts like it has gone into neutral it revs with no power to the wheels. There were no warning signs of trouble it drove fine yesterday and now this.

Neutral in overdrive generally means the overdrive band is not engaging. It can be from a failure of the band itself or the SS2 solenoid for overdrive operation is not operating and the band does not apply.
A transmission shop with a scan tool and pressure gauge could narrow it down fast.
