96 nissan pickup runs great till it heats up then at idol it cuts off while driving it sputters then cuts off. All so at idol when it is about to cut out if you give it gas it sputters black smoke out the tail pipe

Hi there,

With these sort of problems it is always good to start with having a scan done to see if there are any set fault codes, you don't always get a check engine light on with faults. Start here.

Thank you for the reply. Here is what I have already done. Full system diagnostics. Full tune up to include wires cap rotor air filter and fuel filter I have checked all vaccum lines and also cleaned out fuel rail and injectors. All injectors work and mist adequate fuel. I have also disconnected catalytic converter and still have problem. I am thinking now it is one of three sensors. AIR IDOL CONTROL, IDOL POSITION OR MASS AIR FLOW. I do not know how to check these sensors with out replacing all. I have no engine light on. Any other insight would be great

Hi there,

go and have a Scan anyway as you don't always get a light on with a fault code.
