And only at 55; doesn't matter whether I'm accelerating or decelerating. I'm broke and can't afford to replace more than absolutely necessary, how do I know which part is bad? (I know that with this kind of miles I should probably replace all the front end parts, but that's not possible right now).

If it shakes at 55 MPH
I would start with the tires and check also the balance on them if they are any good
check front end
place jack under the lower control arm and jack up
check for any movement
place a bar under the tire pull up on the bar as u bushing in the tire looking for any movement
or simple have the front end checked
