My car starts and the engine revs however, when I put it in gear the engine still revs but does not move. At the same time there is a strong smell of gas. (Since I have had the car in 2006 I have only gotten 200 miles to the tank). Could it have anything to do with my fuel pump and filter?

More than likely, it does not have anything to do with the engine.

So, we need to start with checking the fluid and make sure it is full and in good condition.

Here is a guide that will help with this:

https://www.2carpros.com/articles/how-to-check-and-add-transmission-fluid

If it is then we need to check for codes as I suspect, we have a torque converter issue or even a valve body/solenoid issue and we should have codes for that.

Once we know all this information, we will be able to make a better decision on what direction to go. However, the most likely cause of this issue is low or no fluid so I attached the process below on how to change the fluid because if this is low, it is a good idea to put fresh fluid in it and then we can find the leak as to where it is going.

Let me know what you find with this, and we can go from there. Thanks
