1987 Nissan Sentra car stalled

Hello,
My husband was on his way home from work when the car stalled. He pushed it off the road and a whil later it started then stalled again. We had it towed home. When it rolled off the trailer he turned the key and it started right up. Now will not start at all. We replaced fuel filter, then coil. It is getting gas. Cannot get a spark that we can see by checking it the old fashioned way. What do you suggest next?
Thanks for the help. Our whole Christmas in hanging in the air on this.

The coil positive terminal does it have battery voltage. If so disconnect the coil wire at the distributor and ground it to the engine and crank engine over -do you have spark answer this when you comeback.
