Tires and Wheels problem
2007 Nissan Maxima 70,000 miles

Can a car be knocked out of alignment by getting rear ended. I got new tires on last Octobor at which time they told me the alignment was fine. Less than one month later I was rear-ended sitting at red light. It didn't do major damage but the rear bumber needed replaced. After I got my car back from being fixed I noticed it was still out of alignment. The auto Body shop said they didn't align it because they don't feel that she hit us hard enough to knock it out of alignment. They did tell us just hitting a pot hole could though. The strut also is going bad, could this be caused by being out of alignment. The insurance adjuster also contends that the accident was too minor to cause this.

True on all counts. Getting hit in the rear won't affect the front end alignment. But hitting a pot hole big enough will do it, though. At 70K miles, your strut are bound to be wear out and needs replacement. With your info, I feel that all these happens in coincidence. Regardless, the struts and alignment need fixing, if not they will ruin your tires.
