how do I hold the pulleys still, to get the water pump off, because they are free and if I dont have to take the main one off, then what is the easy way

You can try clamping a visegrip on one lip of the pulley

I'm sorry, but you didn't give me much information to go on. You have the car in front of you, I don't. Are you trying to remove the pulley so you can get the water pump off? Please advise.
