1996 Nissan Altima My car seems possed, Weird problem, I wil

I recently noticed my car cutting out, I mean it would just shut down. I would pull off the road. Let it cool. And it would crank. Ok. Then I pulled out on a small 4lane road. It died the same way. Just poof it shutsdown. I have had the fuel filter replaced by my mechanic, also a coil. His "computer brain" he would hook up and it said distributer. I just got thru replacing all that in 2004. He put a distributor on it and it ran really bad. Now the "check engine light is coming on & staying on. The funny thing is if I let the car get really warm it dosen't over heat but I can drive it all day. I want the check engine light to turn off, and should u help me with an solution I will pass it on to my mechanic. And in hope what I have paid
him $360.00 and the car still acts up. Please help.
