Hi there,

With the seal fully installed into the housing, the axle will fill right up to the seal, there will be a small running clearance, you should feel it click in when the "C"clip locks in.

If you weren't aware of it you may not have heard it, if the clip has not engaged the axle end will easily slide in and out, dose it do this?

On the spline end of the shaft there should be a c clip there will be a machined grove that the clip sits in, some times this this clip breaks and the shaft will not lock in, check this out

Blow the browser size up to 200% in lower right corner(VIEW-TOOL BARS-STATUS BAR).
i don't have time for actual pics of my car but might phone pic 'em. . .the driver side has a c-clip but the passenger does NOT!
top pic driver; bottom pic passenger; middle is . . . really inspect "insert end" of shaft! might need to be filed with an angle file(triangle body shape) to get rid of dings and burrs "so to speak" on the very end that enters. . . you wont have any gaps like 1,2, or 3 inches if installed fully. . .passenger side is removed by loosening 3 bolts on the flange around the bulky housing and held in by those.

Pic of L & R axle showing C clips.

If there is no grove for the C clip on the L/H?axle the end has broken off. as you can see there should be a c clip on the end that locks it in place.

Respectfully, i've not seen those exploded views...I'm just implying what I know by experience, and, what i've seen...I've done these axles.
