1994 Nissan Altima engine light & starter

Sometimes my engine light goes on after approximately a certain mileage is reached like 15 to 20miles. I have seen it go on in the exact spot Im driving past every day!
Also, my starter has trouble starting the car. I change keys or turn the key over, and sometimes have to try 5 times before it connects or starts. I figure the starter is going?

Does the starter turn the engine when you have to turn it 4 or 5 times or is there no noise? As far as the check engine light, take the car to a nationally recognized parts store and have them scan the computer for trouble codes. Most will do it for free.
