My brake lights stay on and I have to take the cable off the battery. I am having the same problem the ekim13ab wrote about on 01/05/2009. Mine is a 1994 Nissan Altima. There is no gle, gxe or se or anything else. My manual is nissan stanza altima. I did not know where fuse 18 or 23 is as suggested in ekim13ab's response. I am so aggravated with this car is cannot see straight and I cannot afford to take to a dealership. Since this seems to be a problem with more than one vehicle, nissan should repair this problem at no cost.

Please advise,
Cheryl

Suspect faulty / sticking brake lamp switch. The switch is located on brake pedal arm, under driver side dash. If it sticks or fails, it will allow the brake lamps to illuminate continuously with or without pedal depressed.
