My van is leaking water and or coolant from I between the flywheel and transmition

Took off the fly wheel drive plate cover and is coming from there some where when I put water in the radiator it goes right through onto the ground

If it's truly coming from inside the bell housing, then it would likely be a bad freeze plug but make real sure it isn't leaking from the valley pan above and running inside the housing.

Does the transmission have to come out to replace the freeze plug

It would be under the intake if it has one but I can't tell you how it's set up because you never listed the engine that it has. Anything leaking near the back of the engine would run down in that direction.
