Recently my car started to shudder and shut off whenever I move forwards. It doesn't matter the gear. Neutral, drive, or low it will happen. It happens once the car gets warm. It'll run perfectly fine in reverse. It runs fine for 5-10 miles then it'll happen. It'll start to shudder then shut off. It starts right up again after. The problem started to occur after I looked at the radio. I removed the center console and the part of the radio. It shows me the wrench light. And sometimes the check engine light. I've replaced the cam and the crankshaft sensor. I've also replaced the computer. I don't know what else it can be other than a wiring issue. Our local Ford mechanic couldn't even diagnose it.

Hi,

The wrench light is usually an indicator for service. However, the check engine light is different. You mentioned that there were codes. Do you remember which ones they were?

Here is a list of codes related to this system:

Next, because of the model year, the vehicle can bus system should be scanned to see if there is a break down in communication between modules. CAN stands for computer area network. It is what allows all of the modules in the vehicle to communicate together.

Here is a video that shows how it's done and why it is a good choice to do:

This is what I would recommend doing to see if there is a break down in communications between modules.

If you can't have that done, please let me know what codes were found when the system was scanned. The idea that the check engine light is on indicates there should be codes stored.

Take care,
Joe
