I have a 2001 Mitsubishi Eclipse v6 with 118,000 miles that just started leaking antifreeze in the drive. What are some things I need to check to find out where the leak is coming from. I did have 1 day that the heat worked for a while and then quit and then started working later that day. I am a single mom and dont have alot of extra cash and if I can get some help I would really appreciate it. Thank You :D

Hi there,

To check foe coolant loss accurately, the system should be at normal operating temperature. Never open cooling system when hot as it is under pressure and you will be badly scolded. With this in mind, check the level cold and go for a drive, when the temp is at normal go home and lift the bonnet. With the engine off have a good look around the hoses that you can see, don't touch as all will be extremly hot. If you notice any coolant make a note of wher it is coming from (the best you can anyway) Have a look under the car as well, try and trace any coolant loss to its source. To be sure, you should have the system pressure tested by a mechanic, as there are many places that coolent can leak from that are not easy to see, the car may have to be on a hoist to access any faulty hose.
