Excessive smoke

I have mitsubishi 97 eclipse GS, when I start it, more than usual smoke comes out the tail pipe, it is not white, blue or black, just gray, but after driving about 5 min exhaust smoke is fine meaning can barely see it coming from tailpipe, what could it be

Light gray smoke is a sign of a mild rich condition caused by a sensor not working properly. It needs to be scaned by a mechanic so he can read the computer data stream and see how the sensors are reacting and if you are tranfering from closed loop to open loop.

You engine has been known for early ring failure also. Good luck
