I have a 1998 Mitsubishi 3000 GT SL.(DOHC engine w/o Turbo) About 2 weeks my car over heated. Took it to a shop and they said I needed to replace my radiator and water pump. So took it to a friend and had him replace my plastic radiator with a medal raditor. He said I didn't need a water pump for he saw no leaks and the water would not be curculating if the water pump was bad. So than a day later it over heated again! Hah! He inspected it more and told me I had a cracked blocked or gasket. Said I needed a new motor. And also my radiator overflow bottle has a hole in it. I refused to get a new engine for the car had that (crack)for about a year now. I didn't see water on the dip stick or the white stuff indecating that my engine was totaled. So I than replaced the thermostat put that liquid glass in my engine to seal cracks etc. And he cut off the flow to the overflow bottle til we ordered one. He said it would not over heat. Yes, to suprise it over heated again which blew a hole in my hose that goes to my raditor. So if I get the new radator overflow bottle, replace that hose of course so everything is flowing correctly will this make it right?

Hi trisha123,

If the head gasket is bad, no matter what you replace, it will overheat. Does not mean that coolant has to get into the oil to confirm that the gasket are bad.

The reserve tank is for excess pressure to get out and coolant is forced out together so when it cools, coolant is recycled back. Sealing it will cause high pressure buildup resulting in burst hoses that are not in good condition. The high pressure will also be forced out through the radiator cap so coolant will be running short.

Do a block and pressure test to confirm if the head gaskets are ok.
