I have a mitsubishi mirage. When driving it a long distance recently the engine would not accelerate properly and the catalytic converter was glowing red hot. I removed the catalytic converter and it ran fine for about a day. Then yesterday on the way to work it was having trouble accelerating again, and when I tried to start it after work, it would turn over but not start. Have any ideas on what is wrong?

Hi mhinchy,

When the cat converter runs red hot, I should be excessively rich fuel being pumped into it.

Probable causes are faulty injector/s or a non firing cylinder.

Since you have lack of accelerating power, I suggest you check the high tension system and plugs 1st.
